Meet the farmers of Mendocino County, where we source grapes for Artezin Wine…

Like so many of Artezin’s growers, Peter Chevalier has farming in his blood. Peter grew up helping his father in the family pear orchard, and he eventually added vineyards to his area of expertise in 2006. Now a well-established grower in Mendocino County, Peter along with his wife, Jode, own and manage 1,400 acres of vineyards across the county.

The couple began working with Randle 14 years ago, and they were among the first growers Randle collaborated with in Mendocino. The Chevalier’s vineyards are organically farmed, and they focus on creating “happy soil” with their own composting program. Not only do Peter and Jode own their own vineyards, but they also serve as the go-to consultants and farmers for area vineyard owners. Peter and Jode run Chevalier Vineyard Management, and they are responsible for the day-to-day operations in a number of vineyards between Lake County and Mendocino County.

The Chevaliers take special care of each vineyard they manage, but Peter and Jode’s own vineyard holds a unique place in their hearts. The vineyard they have owned since 2006 is affectionately named “mi hija”—meaning “daughter” in Spanish—and it is dedicated to their only child.
