Introducing a partnership between Artezin Winemaker Randle Johnson and Chef Michel Nischan with Wholesome Wave…

Each an artist in his own right, Winemaker Randle Johnson and Chef Michel Nischan were brought together by their common desire to produce something pleasing to the palate and nourishing to the body. The two have joined forces in an effort to advocate sourcing fresh, natural, sustainably grown ingredients, which they highlight in their food and wine pairings.

As a winemaker, Randle Johnson works with growers who practice sustainable farming techniques and who carefully oversee their family vineyards. The vision behind Artezin is to honor the art of making Zinfandel from old vine plantings and to work with family owned farms throughout Mendocino and Sonoma Counties. Randle enjoys getting to know the grape growers who provide the foundation for his wines, and he strives to honor them and the heritage of their grapes with each wine he produces.

Chef Nischan also focuses on sourcing sustainably grown produce not only in the meals he creates, but also in the meals families across the country make in their own homes. Chef Nischan is the founder and CEO of Wholesome Wave, a national nonprofit organization that partners with farmers, farmers markets, community leaders, healthcare providers, like-minded nonprofits and government entities to implement programs that increase affordable access to healthy, locally grown fruit and vegetables for consumers in under-served communities. He is passionate about sourcing the best ingredients and making wholesome, fresh produce available to all.

With so many shared interests and values, Chef Michele and Winemaker Randle Johnson have developed a great friendship that we will be sharing with you weekly. Follow them on their epicurean journey through Mendocino County, where Randle will introduce Michel to his grower friends to learn about what makes the region unique for growing Zinfandel and other heirloom varietals….
